The Greek Historic Rally Championship, a series first established in 2002 as a Cup, features six events this year, both on tarmac and gravel. The PEMA Historic Acropolis Rally is the fourth round of the Championship, with an increased coefficient of 3, which will benefit those who achieve a strong result in this international event taking place from September 5 to 7.

Chalkida hosted the opening round of this year’s Greek Historic Rally Championship, with the tarmac Rally Evoikou taking place on May 4, attracting 11 entries in the Historic category. Despite his limited rally experience, Giorgos Tsakanikas, alongside Apostolos Makarios, drove the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4×4 impressively to claim the top step of the podium. Always spectacular, Giorgos Paradeisis – Ploutarchos Stergiou (Ford Escort MKI) slid their way to second place, overcoming the challenge of Alexandros Christodoulou – Athanasios Samaras (Lancia Stratos), who finished third in the Historics. Just behind came Konstantinos and Andreas Kofinas in an Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV, finishing ahead of Dimitris Pavlos Melas – Stathis Vardaxis in a Porsche 911. Two-time Greek Historic Champions Marios Stafylopatis – Giorgos Chatzirigas retired early due to mechanical failure with their Lancia Delta Integrale.

The championship continued in late May, this time on gravel. Rally Stereas Elladas attracted 26 “jewels” from the past, with crews battling over the event’s three special stages. In the Historics, Alexandros Christodoulou – Athanasios Samaras emerged victorious, completing the 56 competitive kilometers unscathed in their white Lancia Delta HF Integrale. Charalampos Bousounis – Nikolaos Giannopoulos delivered their best performance yet, taking second place in the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4×4, a minute ahead of Ioannis Tsalamatas – Nikolaos Babalis in a Ford Escort MKII. Missing the podium by just three seconds were Dimitris Pavlos Melas – Stathis Vardaxis in a Porsche 911 Carrera RS. They were followed by Chara Moraiti – Dimitris Amaxopoulos (Toyota Corolla KE30) and Dimitris Trikardos – Nikos Manouskos (Ford Escort MKI).

Ipirotiko Rally, the third round of the Greek Historic Rally Championship, ultimately did not count towards the series, as the minimum number of starters was not met. The only crew in the Historic category was Alexandros Christodoulou – Athanasios Samaras in a Lancia Stratos HF.

The increased coefficient of 3 for the PEMA Historic Acropolis Rally will be a strong draw for many crews seeking to score as many championship points as possible in the ongoing title battle. From September 5 to 7, join us in the mountains to applaud the efforts of the Greek teams!
