Sporting News A glorious start beneath the Parthenon!

PEMA Acropolis Historic Rally, the most prestigious historic car event in Greece, is officially underway! On Friday afternoon, September 5, the 52 participating crews crossed the ceremonial start ramp, set against the majestic backdrop of the Acropolis, declaring themselves ready to take on the stopwatch over the 13 demanding Special Stages of this year’s rally.
Motorsport fans had the chance to meet the competitors, capture the moment in photos, and admire the historic gems that bring to life one of the most legendary events of the FIA European Historic Rally Championship. The ceremony was honored by the presence of Konstantinos Markouizos, Road Safety Consultant of the Region of Attica, AMOTOE President Maria Tsesmeli, and representatives of the Security Forces, who once again stand by the side of the event.
The wait is over for the competitors, as the action begins on the morning of Saturday, September 6! The crews will first tackle the “Asopia” stage (13.95 km), followed by “Thiva” (14.96 km), a classic feature of both the Historic and the modern Acropolis Rally in recent years. The day continues with “Akraifnio” (10.36 km) before the regrouping in Aliartos. Afterwards, the crews will face “Elikonas” (8.06 km), “Mavroneri” (13.37 km), and “Parnassos” (13.71 km), all familiar from last year’s edition. Leg 1 concludes with “Amfissa” (11.75 km), run under the spotlight, before the overnight halt in Itea, which will also host the Service Park.
On Sunday morning, September 7, competitors will once again face “Amfissa” (11.75 km), this time in daylight, followed by “Oinochori” (10.02 km) and “Amfikleia” (13.89 km). After a service halt in Amfikleia, the rally resumes with “Elateia–Zeli” (11.65 km) and another run through “Amfikleia” (13.89 km), before concluding with the final stage, “Oinochori” (10.02 km).
The finish ceremony will take place at the forecourt of the European Cultural Centre of Delphi at 17:30, followed by the Prize-Giving Ceremony at the Frýnichos Theatre at 18:30.
This year’s PEMA Acropolis Historic Rally comprises 13 Special Stages, covering 157.49 competitive kilometers, with a total rally distance of 689.73 km.
